CTAN: directory: /tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/exercise

The package helps to typeset exercises or list of exercises within any document. Exercises, questions, sub-questions are automatically numbered. It is possible to put answers in the same document, and display them immediately, later in the document or not at all. The layout of exercise is fully customisable. It is then possible to typeset long problems, short exercises, questionnaires, etc. Usage of the babel package is detected, but not fully supported by now (only english and french are implemented). See documentation for more information.

Dario Taraborelli: The Beauty of LaTeX

There are several reasons why one should prefer LaTeX to a WYSIWYG word processor like Microsoft Word: portability, lightness, security are just a few of them (not to mention that LaTeX is free). There is still a further reason that definitely convinced me to abandon MS Word when I wrote my dissertation: you will never be able to produce professionally typeset and well-structured documents using most WYSIWYG word processors. LaTeX is a free typesetting system that allows you to focus on content without bothering about the layout: the software takes care of the actual typesetting, structuring and page formatting, producing documents of astonishing elegance.

Squeezing space with LaTeX | Research tips

I’ve been writing a grant application with a 10-page limit, and as usual it is difficult to squeeze everything in. No, I can’t just change the font as it has to be 12 point with at least 2 cm margins on an A4 page. Fortunately, LaTeX is packed full of powerful features that help in squeezing it all in. Here are some of the tips I’ve used over the years. Make your text block as big as possible. The simplest way to do that is using the geometry package:
